SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER, Battalion Chief, in the Operations Division, Fire and Emergency Services and Department of NAS SIGONELLA, Italy.
- You will detect the presence of potentially hazardous materials to maintain containment and control.
- You will collaborate with fire prevention or safety engineers in studying fire prevention problems.
- You will identify performance, progress, disciplinary, and training needs of crew members.
- You will lead a crew in routine maintenance of fire equipment and specialized tools used on assigned apparatus.
- You will respond to medical emergencies (e.g., sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth) to provide immediate medical attention and treatment.
Requirements
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Directing the operation of one or more firefighting vehicles and associated equipment of significant complexity to perform firefighting and rescue operations; 2) Applying firefighting techniques to manage fire hazards peculiar to structures with multiple stories or basements, vehicles, large stores or warehouses and hazardous materials; 3) Reviewing the design, construction, occupancy of buildings and installed fire suppression systems to conduct fire suppression pre-plans and emergency actions plans; 4) Employing hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification and decontamination procedures; and 5) Controlling and extinguishing fires and conducting rescue operations in structural fire, hazardous material, confined space response, motor vehicle collision and other emergencies. NOTE: This information has to be presented within your resume to be considered for this position. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I, II; Fire Instructor I; Fire Inspector I; Airport Firefighter; HAZMAT Incident Commander. Also must possess a valid, current license as an Emergency Medical Technician listed in a State or the National Registry (NREMT) to at least Basic Life Support level (EMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Copies of certifications MUST be submitted at the time of application to verify eligibility. *** Physical Demands: The incumbent must be prepared to work long arduous hours when required. The incumbent is not limited to the office environments. Position requirements demand the incumbent to perform duties at the scene of emergency operations. The operations are in all types of adverse conditions with the possibility of extended exposures to elements, The incumbent as a qualified incident command officer can be exposed to hazardous emergency scene situations including aircraft, structural and wildlife incidents. Hazardous materials, chemicals and radiation, confined space and various rescue incidents. The incumbent must be of sound physical and mental condition to perform in highly stressful situations. Requires maintaining satisfactory physical fitness by participations in a DOD directed physical fitness program during duty hours. Requires to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus. Must pass annual fire fighter's physical examination. The incumbent, due to the nature of business, must be capable of analytical reasoning, sound judgement, and decisiveness during highly dangerous, stressful and irregular operations involving threat to life, and environment and property. Work Environment: The Battalion Chief's duty hours are established at 72-hours per week at NAS 1. The incumbent is subject to emergency recall during off duty hours regardless of the time of day or inclement weather condition. This commitment to duty can greatly affect in incumbent's use of personnel time and off duty activities in order to provide the Naval Air Station with the appropriate level of life, environment and property protection management authority.
