Requirements

APPRENTICESHIP, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  • Serve as a probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (1700-2000 hours of on-the-job training);
  • Serve a 5-year apprenticeship including the probationary period (8500-10,000 hours of on-the job training);
  • The five-year apprenticeship period is divided into one-year segments, each of which includes 1,700 to 2,000 hours of on the job training and a minimum of 246 hours of related classroom instruction. All UA apprentices receive a strong general education in the trade, with core courses in basics such as mathematics, science, drafting, welding and other pipe trades related courses.
  • At a certain point, apprentices can choose a specific path to follow, to be trained as a journeyman plumber, pipefitter, sprinkler fitter, and HVACR Technician.
  • Report for work on a regular basis;
  • Have reliable transportation to and from the job site;
  • Work under the direction of a Journey Worker on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily;
  • Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes;
  • Purchase required text material for use in related training classes;
  • Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee.
